Wine with a cause…here’s their story!

We exist for socially conscious consumers who love great tasting wine, and want to feel a part of something bigger than themselves.

We remove and recycle 10 plastic bottles from oceans and rivers for every bottle of wine we sell.

WHY DO WE DO THIS?

Because we want to leave the world better than it was when we came in, and our wines carry a heritage born from the sea.

26 million years ago, South Australia’s incredible Limestone Coast was submerged by a vast ocean that was home to a thriving marine ecosystem.

A series of dramatic ice ages caused the ocean to recede, leaving the area rich with deep limestone deposits containing majestic marine fossils.

Ancient mineralised relics, and an extensive museum of marine life, now lay buried beneath the alluvial soils of this World Heritage site.

One of these relics is the fossilised remains of an ancient whale which contributes to the rich, fertile soil in our vineyard. It also provides a natural and unique filtration system – perfect for growing the grapes that produce our award-winning wine.

Materra Wine Dinner

This event is limited to 40 guests.

  • Please confirm your reservation by responding to this email. Include names of guests and any dietary restrictions.  Such restrictions will need to be sent by May 28th in order to accommodate.
  • Full payment is required by May 28th.  For members, your card on file will be charged. Non-members,  an invoice will be emailed to you for online payment.  The grand total will include tax and a 15% gratuity. Cancellations made within 7 days of the event will not be refunded.  

This will be a special dinner with Winemaker Chelsea Barrett joining us from Napa! Chelsea grew up among winemakers. Her father, Bo, has been making wine at Chateau Montelena with his family since 1972. Her mother, Heidi, is considered one of the world’s best – she was the founding winemaker at Screaming Eagle, Dalla Valle, and her own brands La Sirena and Amuse Bouche, among others. Her grandfather Richard Peterson is also a renowned winemaker.
Chelsea herself grew up working for the family – in the Montelena cellar and vineyard – from a young age, including summers in the tasting room during college. She was drawn into pursuing winemaking from a love of food, chemistry, and art. She attended the University of California Davis and graduated in 2010 with a degree in Viticulture and Enology.
After college, Chelsea traveled the world’s wine regions extensively and interned at Mayer am Pfarplaz in Austria, Two Hands in Australia, and Opus One in Napa Valley. She started as enologist at Joel Gott Wines in 2012, where she was promoted to assistant winemaker a year later, then to winemaker in 2017. In 2017, she also joined Heidi as co-winemaker for Amuse Bouche and Au Sommet. She also launched her own label, Aviatrix in collaboration with her mother and sister.

Meet Winemaker Sarah Cobot from Battle Creek Cellars and Primarius in Oregon!
Winemaker Sarah Cabot brings an ideal combination of ultra-premium Pinot Noir expertise, vinicultural knowledge, and all-around passion for winemaking in Oregon to Battle Creek Cellars. A familiar name in the region, Sarah has been making wine in the Willamette Valley for more than 15 years. Prior to joining Battle Creek Cellars she was the principal winemaker for Omero Cellars at its founding in 2008 until early 2014. She was an assistant winemaker for Willakenzie Estate and started in Oregon as a harvest intern and then assistant winemaker for Belle Pente Vineyard in Carlton.

Aquitaine Wine Company is a dynamic wine importer and Bordeaux Negociant. They specialize in discovery wines that come from prestigious and renown Bordeaux appellations. Meet the Winemaker Thursday Tasting

Born in San Francisco and raised in Napa Valley, John Freeman was destined to be in the wine industry. John’s initial work in California included seven years at Franciscan Vineyards and an additional five spent as the Cellar Master at Miner Family. Charmed by the Walla Walla Valley, John decided to move to Washington in 2002. 

John is the Winemaker for Browne Family Vineyards, Waterbrook and Pendulum. From vine to bottle, he and his team carefully manage every step of the winemaking process to ensure the overall complexity, balance and consistent quality.

2019 L’ENTRATA – CABERNET SAUVIGNON

30 cases produced – May 2022
Blend: 85% Cabernet Sauvignon 12% Merlot 3% Malbec
Aging: 20% new French oak 225Ls.
AVA: Columbia Valley
Alcohol: 13.9%

Vintage:

The 2019 vintage was warm to hot overall but late snow added significant moisture to the soil in March and April. The early growing season was plagued by high mildew pressure and substantial canopy growth. The vineyards continued to push new growth well into the summer as many vineyards went without watering for significant periods of time. Fall was moderate although we had an early frost that affected a number of vineyards.

Wine:

The fruit was picked at night to maintain freshness. Once at the winery the fruit was cluster and berry sorted and fermented in 97% stainless steel and 3% concrete tanks. Aged for 26 months in 20% new French oak and bottled unfined and unfiltered.

Tasting note:

Vibrant notes of blackberry, plums, black currant, vanilla bean and raspberry liquor. Swirling adds pressed black fruits, raspberry puree, cocoa powder and sassafras. The palate is ripe and polished with a complex mixture of black fruits, black tea spice, juicy acidity and silky tannins.

2019 L’ENTRATA – PINOT NOIR

30 cases produced – May 2022
Blend: 100% Pinot Noir
Aging: 100% new French oak 228L barrel.
AVA: Columbia Valley
Alcohol: 13.7%

Vintage:

Wine:

The fruit was picked at night to maintain freshness. Once at the winery it was cluster and berry sorted and then fermented in 88% stainless steel and 12% concrete tanks. A blend of three clones; 667(50%), 777(38%) and Pommard(12%). It was then aged in 100% new French oak 228L barrels for 26 months before being bottled unfined and unfiltered.

Tasting note:

An intense nose of sweet fruits and savory nuance. Dried plums, sandalwood, kola nut, garrigue, black tea and blackberry compote. Swirling adds iron, chai spice and black cherry extract. The palate is medium bodied, filled with black fruits, spice and an intensely mineral driven finish. The tannins are ultra fine and carry this light in color but intense Pinot Noir to an incredibly long and complex finish.
